About Sucralose

What is Sucralose?

Sucralose is the only low calorie sweetener that is made from sugar.

How is Sucralose Made

Sucralose is produced by changing three alcohol groups on the sugar molecule with three chlorine atoms. This results in a stable sweetener that tastes like sugar without the calories.

Sucralose works better than most no calorie sweeteners due to the ability to use in cooking and baking. One of the reasons why that is Sucralose is heat stable.

Is Sucralose Safe?

Sucralose is currently being used in more than 30 countries including the United States. The FDA approved it for use in 1998. Studies over the past 20 years have proven it suitable for people of all ages including those with diabetes. In addition it is safe for women who are pregnant or nursing. Studies have also shown the following:

  • Sucralose is not recognized by the body as a carbohydrate.

  • Sucralose is not toxic and has no adverse effects in test animals with equivalent sweetness to 40+ pounds of sugar per day for life.
